Frailty is a serious, common, and potentially modifiable geriatric syndrome of increased vulnerability to functional loss. Among available healthful dietary choices, the Mediterranean dietary pattern is well studied in aging because of its favorable effects on cardiovascular health, inflammation and glucose metabolism. This lecture will focus on the effects of the Mediterranean diet on health in persons with increased risk of functional loss.
