Sound Generations Expresses Appreciation for Veteran Caregivers
On September 16, 2022, as part of its Veterans, Seniors and Human Services Levy community-building effort, Sound Generations organized and coordinated an event to recognize and celebrate dedicated Veteran caregivers. The Veteran Caregiver Appreciation Day event was held at The Museum of Flight in south Seattle.
Eighteen devoted participants were able to take a much-needed break and be in community with one another at this event. Guest speakers from the Alzheimer’s Association, Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs, WA Serves, and Sound Generation’s WeCare Medicare provided a tremendous amount of information regarding their services, programs, and resources available to veterans and their caregivers.
Our Veteran caregivers face many challenges. One expressed their difficulty navigating resources, services, and programs for caregivers and their loved ones. One of the goals of the appreciation event was building stronger connections to community providers.
At the conclusion of Veteran Caregiver Appreciation Day, participants had the opportunity to participate in a docent led tour of the museum. One participant shared, “I really cannot express how much I enjoyed this day and the fellowship involved.”
