- Statewide Gathering of Area Agencies on Aging (AAA) Advisory Councils and the State Council on Aging (SCOA)

- All members of the Area Agency on Aging Advisory Councils and the State Council on Aging are invited to this annual opportunity to meet one another and share accomplishments and visions. Information on national health care reform and its implications for Washington State and our current long term care system will be shared. Afternoon workshops will build on this theme. The day ends with a discussion of shared priorities for the upcoming legislative session. This event is free to all AAA Advisory Council members and SCOA members. - Each of these fun cooking classes will feature an easy, tasty, low cost and healthy recipe using seasonal produce. There will be a sample-size–tasting of the recipe. Learn tipss for how to cook for one, how to cook vegetables in the microwave (and make them taste good) and other topics. The classes will be lead by a local chef volunteer. A new conference series in Creating Aging-Friendly Communities called ''Environmental & Policy Change for Healthy Aging'' is being offered by the CDC Healthy Aging Research Network. Participate right from your computer to access online presentations, webinars, and resources.

This initiative aims to build capacity for change and offers a variety of opportunities for learning, sharing, and networking. It features four online modules, scheduled September 2010 through January 2011, each module covering an essential topic in healthy aging. The conference series begins on September 28, 2010. Every module begins with a pre-recorded presentation that introduces key concepts for the module topic. This presentation is followed in two weeks by an interactive webinar. Two days following the webinar, the module offers a moderated online conversation.

- Living a Healthy Life Technical Assistance Conference

DSHS Aging and Disability Administration and the Washington State Department of Health Diabetes Prevention and Control Program and Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Progra are planning a Chronic Disease Self Management Program (CDSMP) Technical Assistance conference.
People from a variety of organizations are invited to share their experiences and expertise, and help continue to disseminate and sustain CDSMP programming. The goal is to bring together 100 attendees including our grant partners, host organizations, Master Trainers, Lay Leaders, and non-grant CDSMP providers from across the state and potential interested CDSMP organizations or individuals.For additional information on this evidence based chronic disease self-management program for older adults please visit the Living Well in Washington website http://livingwell.doh.wa.gov and the Stanford Patient Education Resource Center http://patienteducation.stanford.edu who developed the CDSMP materials.
